Elanima: An Introduction

Elanima: The Fifth Force and the One Soul, which will be published here in installments, opens by confronting the reader with the present moment’s real existential risks, and argues that this urgency, rather than being cause for despair, is exactly why a clearer account of consciousness, force, and meaning is needed now. It builds outward from there, moving from cosmology — how the universe came to be, prior to any question of God — into the strange fact of consciousness itself.

From there, it introduces its central metaphysical claim: that élan vital is a fifth fundamental force alongside physics’ four, animating life. Elanima: The Fifth Force and the One Soul links élan vital to a single, undivided universal soul: not many separate souls inhabiting many separate beings, but one soul expressing itself through all of them. Karma is reframed in naturalistic terms, as consequence written into the body and its patterns rather than a cosmic bookkeeping system. This new structure is “Elanima,” from élan and anima.

The essay then turns practical and psychological, examining the ego as an obstacle to clear seeing, and asking what self remains once habitual performance and self-image fall away. It addresses meaning without appeal to any external mandate or authority, and confronts death directly, arguing that nonbeing exists symmetrically both before and after life, the same undifferentiated absence on either side, reframing death as a return rather than an ending.
